Last night, Melon Man watched the annual Memorial Day Concert from Washington DC program on PBS. At one point, he stood, saluted, and was waving his arm in the air as they were honoring each branch of the military. I grabbed my fancy pants camera and took this picture...
It really makes me proud to be married to a man who has served our country. I never realized just how much of an impact that would make on me. Last year, I watched it with him, but this year, I was busy doing other things... like cleaning up all the shoes in our closet that I'm sick of tripping over and throwing away 14 pair that are old, worn, and yucky and then organizing all of the remaining shoes so they fit on the shelves I built a few years back.
This morning, once again, I woke up at 6 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep so I just got up. I wish I could sleep in, but I guess it's just not meant to be. I am on my third load of laundry, got 3 bags of garbage ready for Melon Man to take out, and now am getting ready to work on this mess....before Auntie Sigie and Uncle Ward arrive to help with this (yes, it's been sitting there since we bought it in February)...oooh...and look at how DIRTY my wood floor is coming in from outside...better add that to the list of things to do today too....and then I have to work on powerwashing this to get all the bird poo and dog pee off of everything...
What a fun Memorial Day it will be for me....NOT. I'm having my own little pity party right now, but I'll get over it.
Update: 9:42 pm - Auntie Sigie and Uncle Ward arrived around noon and it took us just about an hour to can 2 cans of rice, 4 cans of 16 bean soup mix, 4 cans of red chili beans, 2 cans each containing 3 packages of fudge brownie mix (from boxes), 2 or 3 cans of potato pearls, 3 5-gallon buckets of egg noodles, 1 5-gallon bucket of small shells, 1 5-gallon bucket of rotini, and I think one 5-gallon bucket of something else, but I can't remember what. It's nice to have that pile of food storage gone from the kitchen. There are just a few little boxes left now. We hung some pictures, Auntie swept the floor, we visited for a short bit, and then they were off. I finished up some dishes, some more laundry, put some baby back ribs in the oven to slow roast, and then sat on the sofa for a few minutes. I guess I must have needed some sleep because 2 hours later, I woke up and it was after 5. Didn't get the patio done, nor did I get the floor mopped. They will have to wait. Melon Man got home around 6:45 and we had corn on the cob, ribs, and salad for dinner while watching Night at the Museum. Cute movie, hadn't seen it before. Now, just finished cleaning up dinner, Melon Man threw the last load of clothes in the washer, and I'm going to go fold all the undies before I go to bed. Auntie and Uncle, Lisa, and I will be heading to Chandler/Gilbert this Saturday to go food storage shopping at the Honeyville store. I'm excited to see what they have there. I just hope it doesn't turn into a major shopping trip that ends up with another pile in the kitchen again!

kKristin-- I love it! Look how much you got done! That always feels so good to me. Your shoes look awesome and way to go on the laundry. The rest of it will come. How much more did you get done?
I love that you got that shot of Clint!
Sounds like it turned out to be a good day after all. You are so lucky to be able to be stocking your food storage. You have done a lot this year. Way to go!
