Scrapbook Convention Time!

I went to the scrapbook convention today at the Renaissance hotel in Glendale.  The hotel is beautiful...absolutely beautiful.  I loved this wall on the back of the elevator bank.  Each one of these round things had something architecturally interesting about it, although you can't see it very well in the picture.

I would have liked to have stayed in one of the rooms but, alas, (hand swept across the forehead as Scarlet O'Hara would do....) it was not meant to be as my scrapbook convention partner did not go with me this year.  I was really bummed.  I really missed her.  But, I understood.

Melon Man dropped me off early so I could get checked in and wait for the early entrance to the vendor fair without having to worry about parking, etc.  I met up with one of my employees there on Friday morning.  We shopped together a little and waited for classes to start.  She had her own classes and I had my own so that was about the extent of seeing each other, but it was fun to know someone else there.

I had chosen four classes this year.  Two of them reminded me of why I am done with going to the conventions.  Lame-O.  I think I'm back to skipping the convention.  Lisa and I used to love going to convention so we could just be together and relax.  We would haul all our scrap-crap to the hotel in Mesa, set up scrapping areas in our room, go to a couple classes, shop, come back and change into our jammies, and then order food and just scrap and veg.  It started out that we just went for the day the first year.  Then, the following year, 2001 (I remember it distinctly because I remember sitting on the bed watching President Bush's speech a week after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Towers), we spent one night at the hotel.  Eventually, over the years, we have increased the number of nights we've stayed at the hotel up to FOUR!  Four nights in a hotel, just miles from home!  I've been through interesting things while at the convention, such as teaching a class at the last minute, being told,in public, my husband lost his job (after I'd just spent a bunch of money), and who knows what else.  But, the fact is, this time with my cousin has been some of the most wonderful, fun time I've had.  We've laughed, we've cried, we've slept, relaxed, and just enjoyed each other.

Lisa...I missed you today.  See...I even saved a chair for you...

Melon Man's job is fine...it was Mr. Spock that I was referring to. He always liked to tell me bad things in public - like losing his job or being gay or whatever - so I wouldn't cause a scene because he knew I hated causing a scene in public!
