Brush and Floss...or Else...

...this may be you, like it is me.  How does one go from a 9 millimeter pocket to a 13 millimeter pocket in 2 weeks?  Well, let me tell you.  It's due to not flossing regularly and the bacteria finally taking over and eating away the bone that holds your tooth in your mouth.  Yep, that's what finally has happened to me.  Drat.

Yep, my number 30 tooth (2nd from the back on the lower right side) is not doing well.  I have to have it pulled, an implant put in, and then a crown put on top of it.  So not happy about this...or about the cost.  GRATEFULLY, we have good insurance!  Instead of costing $4,000, it's ONLY (?) going to be about $1,200.  ONLY.

I did the whole verge of tears thing when they were telling me.  All those years of not understanding just how important flossing is...  All those years of not having my teeth cleaned regularly...  Now I have to have a metal post put into my gum and a fake tooth put over it!  Crap.

Well, I am NOT going to let that happen to the rest of my teeth!  I WILL floss every day.  I WILL brush twice a day, not just once.  And, I DID buy an automatic toothbrush today - for BOTH of us - because I do not want Melon Man to have to go through anymore teeth loss than he already has.

Yep. I understand. And we have a family history of this very thing. I remember when Mamo and Daddo had all their teeth pulled and got dentures. Did you know Auntie Tia and Uncle Bob both have dentures. Not one tooth in their mouth.

I just went to the dentist today. I have to go every four months for a cleaning to keep my gums healthy because our family history also develops tartar and plaque a lot.

We all have Sonicare's. I just got a six pack of new refill heads at Costco last week. It is the absolute best thing we ever did for our teeth. I brush twice a day, floss each day, and Listerine at night. I love how there is a little timer in the toothbrush that beeps at 30 second intervals to remind you to move to the next region of your mouth! Did they tell you to brush a minimum of 2 minutes total? 30 seconds each quarter region of your teeth? I never knew that until a few years ago! I do 2 minutes in the morning and 4 minutes at night before I go to bed.

Keep us posted on your new tooth!

Oh, and P.S.:

If you use your BBBeyond coupons you can get your brush refills for a really good price at BBB. Otherwise I've found Costco is pretty reasonable.
