Aunt Marj's Visit

On Sunday night I received a phone call that was a great surprise.  My Aunt Marj was coming to town and she wanted to come by and see us!  I was really excited.  It has probably been 20 years since I've seen her - well, wait, I did see her at my mom's funeral probably, but in all reality, that wasn't really a "visiting" type of day for me.  So, this was a great pleasure for me to be able to see her, visit, talk, etc.

She called me at work about 3 p.m. to say she was leaving Lake Havasu City.  We estimated that she would arrive here around 6:45 so I worked until the last possible moment and then headed home.  She really did arrive around 6:45 and I was still standing in the driveway talking with my neighbor after just pulling up myself!

We waited for Melon Man to wake up and then we headed out to Macayo's for dinner.  I don't know what's happened to Macayo's lately, but the food just is not good anymore.  I used to LOVE to go there.  Now, I really don't ever just "choose" to go there.  The salsa is ucky to me.  I still do love their baja sauce, but if you don't care for the food so much anymore, why bother?  Because it was close and we couldn't stay at our house because she's allergic to dogs.

We headed out and got right in.  It's funny, we never get to sit in the jungle room unless we have guests with us.  Huh?  How does that always happen?  Anyway, we pretty much had the room to ourselves except one small group over in the corner.  I stared at her a lot because her daughter Gwen and she look SO MUCH alike.  We talked and laughed and talked some more.  We reminisced about Uncle John and how his cancer went.  I never knew he had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.  He was at Stage 4 when they found it.  He was able to make it into remission for 5 years, but then his came back.  I guess when it's at that stage - and so long ago when the chemo they had was what it was versus what it is now - that's bound to happen.  We talked about how the kids have handled not having one of their parents as I know we kids struggle not having our mom around anymore.  We talked about how she handles not having Uncle John by her side anymore and how she loves going and visiting all of her kids.  She just gets on a plane or in the car and goes and sees them.  She doesn't expect them to come visit her - she's fancy free and they have their busy lives.

Soon, it was late and she needed to get back on the road again to head down to her sister's house in Mesa.  We said our goodbyes and she was off.  What a fun evening!
