Buddy the Elf

By now, everyone knows how I've been really struggling with my Christmas spirit this year. I think my spirit meter is broken. Even as I left for work today, C asked me what was wrong and I burst into tears because I was just so sad that I have no Christmas spirit. I went to work, completely sad and quiet.

Thanks to Miss Tina from work though...she knows how much I love Buddy the Elf from the movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell (seriously one of the funniest stupid movie actors ever). Well, she has this little 5 inch Buddy doll at her desk. I'm in my office, working feverishly on trying to schedule 2,000 people for the holiday luncheon at work and all of a sudden I hear, "The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!" and I look up and see her Buddy the Elf doll peeking around the corner of my office door! I cracked up laughing. She came in and we began discussing our annual Buddy the Elf gift card giveaway. The more we talked about how we wanted to do it, the more creative I got and the more excited and full of Christmas cheer I became. It finally ended with a life-size Buddy the Elf cut out and our Senior VP being on the naughty list. Anyhow...that cheer lasted all of about an hour or so and then I was sad again.

Around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, C called to ask when I was coming home. I told him in a bit. He said, "Well, when you get home, we'll put up some lights outside and we'll put up the tree." I actually got a little excited! I got home though and he was just coming out to get the mail. He brought the tree box in from the garage and then went and sat down to watch tv. I was halfway expecting/hoping he would jump right up and say, okay, let's go get the lights up! But, he didn't. So, I sat there for at least 45 minutes waiting for something to happen. Finally, I asked him to help me with the tree and just gave up on the lights. Don't get me wrong...I'm very grateful that he suggested doing the lights, but it just didn't happen. Part of that was my fault...I expected to be home by 3:30, but didn't get home until about 5 or so. By then, it was almost dark. It's too hard to put lights up in the dark so I just said forget it.

We finally opened the tree and started to put our new tree together. It went together pretty quickly and the fact that it's pre-lit totally ROCKS! But....the tree is GINORMOUS!

Seriously, I've never seen such a huge tree! I'm going to have to bring the 8 foot ladder inside to decorate it! It's heavy as all get out too. BUT, it is B-U-T-FUL! Looks like the trees we used to buy as a child, but a lot fuller! It's a "slim" tree so it's not exceedingly wide either, so that is good. We didn't get much done other than put it together and get about 1/2 of the branches twisted out, but I'll finish it this weekend. Hopefully this will help my Christmas spirit meter move a little bit!

I asked C to either put on a Christmas movie or find one on tv that we could watch while we finally ate our pot pies for dinner. I just really needed one! Something had to get me in the mood to do this stuff! As he's flipping through the online tv guide, what movie was on? Elf! Yay!!! I made it to the point where Buddy is decorating the store in preparation for Santa and I was out. Asleep. I guess I just needed it. I even missed out on calling my brother, Kurt, for his birthday!

I'm sorry to everyone who reads this that I'm such in a downer about Christmas this year. I hope I'm not ruining yours.

That is ironic that ELF cheers you up. It came out the year of Mom's last Christmas. We rented while she and Dad were living with us after his attack. Every day I would try to take it back to the video store and she would beg me not too. She must have watched it a million times. Maybe she is trying to send you some secret message! Love you

I enjoyed our chat yesterday. Got stamps today so I'll resend the envelope. I love Elf. How did your tree turn out?
