Food Storage Addition

C called me from work today and said they had hamburger on sale for $6.50 for 5 pounds. Wowsa! That's an awesome deal! That's only $1.30 per pound. So...we bought 50 pounds of it! I was so happy that we could add this to our food storage. It will only last us about 6 months though so I need to get some more still. (Well, if I keep cooking as 'much' as I have for the last year, it will probably last us a year OR MORE! - LOL.) I need to clean out our deep freeze and organize it all. It's kind of a catastrophe right now and I'm sure that if I cleaned it up there would be plenty of room for another 50 pounds.

I finally got to use the FoodSaver system that I bought about 6-8 months ago or so. It sucks all the air out of the bag and then seals it so the food inside doesn't get freezer burn, etc. I've had it sitting on the counter for a while, but did something with the booklet for it and so I didn't know how to use it. Well, I decided that it would be best if I learned how to use it and "saved" my hamburger rather than storing it in 5 pound chubs or in plastic wrap. So, I went online and found the instructions. However, I quickly learned that you also have to open it up and take out some cardboard and tape stuff that is in there for shipping protection. C finally got it to work and we got some of the meat "saved" and in the freezer. The rest will get done this weekend. Yay...I feel so good having this in our freezer!
