I'm Not Irish

Today is St. Patrick's Day. Everyone kept asking "Where's your green?" I kept saying, "I'm not Irish." I'm not, so why would I participate in St. Patrick's Day? I'm not Mexican and I don't participate in Cinco de Mayo. Why does everyone just assume everyone has to participate in SPD? Honestly, and no offense to anyone who is Irish, but when I think of Irish people, all I can think of is people dressed in plaid or green, with bright reddish-orange hair. Stereotyping is what I'm doing, I know, but that's what happens. :(

The one tradition about SPD that I do like is the eating of the Corned Beef & Cabbage. I had never eaten this until I met Clint and that is the very first meal he ever cooked for me. I hated it. I think back though and think it was because the CB wasn't cooked long enough to make it super tender. I LOVE it now though. Whenever it's on sale, we also buy about 5-10 of them and put them in the freezer for when we get the craving later in the year.

Have any of you readers out there seen Meringue Powder in the stores? I need it for the royal icing I'm using on my HFPE cupcakes in April and I just cannot find it other than at Michaels. Certainly there has got to be something similar in the grocery store! Oh well, at least if I have to buy it at Michaels, I might be able to use a coupon on it!

Random Memory #3: So everyone is talking about Daddo today so I thought I'd chime in too. I don't recall any memories of him directly, but I do remember that his favorite hymn was "There is a Green Hill Far Away". As a child, everytime we would sing it in Sacrament Meeting, my mom would lean over and whisper, "This was my dad's favorite hymn." I love that hymn too. I found it ironic though today, after 35+ years of hearing my mom say that, that today I put 2 and 2 together and realized that it was funny that he died on St. Patrick's Day - the day of green - and his favorite hymn was a song about a green hill.

Good memory. I wish I could remember things from my childhood that good but unfortunately there wasn't many good memories for me. Most of mine are from 14 and on, that I can remember well, anyway. Hope your having a good week and what time do you want me to come over tonight?
